5 Minute Makeup – Nanny Sunday’s guide for busy Mums!

Hey there multi-tasking mothers out there! If you’re anything like how I was as a Nanny, you’re constantly juggling a thousand things at once – from making sure the little ones are fed and entertained, to keeping the household running smoothly.

Let’s be honest, finding time for a full-blown makeup routine can seem like an impossible feat most days – priorities change, and you may not even want to have a full face of makeup anymore. Nevertheless, I know all the mums I have spoken to at least, all want to feel slightly snatched with very little effort! So, fear not! As a Nanny and makeup enthusiast, who is always on the go, I’ve perfected a quick 5-minute makeup routine that’ll have you looking fresh and put together in no time. So, grab your makeup bag and let’s dive in! 💗

Step 1: Prep and Prime
Start off by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser, and follow up with your favourite moisturizer and make sure to put sunscreen on your face and neck! These steps help create a smooth canvas for your makeup to glide on effortlessly. If you have a few extra seconds, applying a primer can also help your makeup last longer throughout the day!

Step 2: Base
Not everyone has time for a full face of foundation! I usually opt for a lightweight foundation instead of a tinted moisturizer, as I have more oily skin and it doesn’t sit as well for me. But if you don’t wear foundation, instead, reach for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream for a lightweight, natural-looking base. Simply dot the product onto your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, then blend it outwards using your fingers or a makeup brush. This step evens out your skin tone while still allowing your natural beauty to shine through. Some of my go to brands for foundation are Maybelline and Morphe! Both are very affordable brands. 😍

Step 3: Conceal and Brighten
Next up, grab your trusty concealer and target any areas that need a little extra coverage – think under-eye circles, blemishes, or redness around the nose. Gently blend the concealer using your fingers or a makeup sponge for a seamless finish. If you’re feeling extra tired, opt for a concealer with light-reflecting properties to brighten up those under-eye areas.

Step 4: Brows and Eyes
Ah, the power of brows and lashes! Quickly groom your brows with a tinted brow gel or pencil to define and shape them. Then, swipe on a coat of your favourite mascara. My absolute favourite mascara is the ‘Sky High’ waterproof mascara by Maybelline. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also curl your lashes beforehand for extra oomph!

Step 5: Final touches
Last but not least, add a pop of colour to your cheeks and lips to bring some life back into your face. Opt for a multitasking product like a cream blush that can be easily applied with your fingers for a fresh, dewy glow. I also like to sweep a little bit of bronzer on my cheek bones, to add some warmth to the face. Follow on with setting under your eyes, nose and forehead with powder, to lock in your base. Then, swipe on a sheer lip tint or gloss for a hint of colour and hydration – no precision required! Life hack: if you use your cream blush on your lips before adding gloss, it ties the look together so nicely, adding to the natural look!

And there you have it, Mama! In just 5 minutes flat, you’ve transformed from feeling sleep-deprived to looking effortlessly and naturally stunning! Remember, the key is to keep it simple and focus on enhancing your natural beauty rather than covering it up.

So, the next time you’re pressed for time but still want to look put together, give this quick makeup routine a try. Your little ones might not notice the difference, but you’ll definitely feel like a million bucks!
